What Is Reiki?
There are many explanations these days to this question. I began my healing process receiving Reiki (along with 2 other forms of natural healing) in 2003. After moving through some difficult circumstances, I started Reiki training in 2005, becoming a Reiki Master/Teacher in 2009 and have been practicing Reiki since then. What I want to emphasize about this hands-on technique for accessing the healing process is that it can lead to a spiritual journey during regular sessions and/or training. This is why meditation of some form (ie- sitting, movement, chanting) is highly recommended to gain clarity as the energetic healing shifts occur while becoming trained in Reiki.
A session occurs when the client lies on a massage table, or sits in a chair comfortably, and fully clothed. The Reiki practitioner’s hands hover over energetic centers of the body called “chakras” and/or any area of the body that needs healing. Sensations that I and/or my client might feel are warmth, tingling, cold, small spasms, but every person’s reactions are different. Some people fall asleep on my table, some giggle, many cry, many feel warmth, and some feel no change in the moment. Any reaction is acceptable, because this is about the client’s healing. “When ego goes (away), Reiki flows.” (V. Amador)
In the moment, Reiki comes with open hands, literally and figuratively, to offer the mind, body, and spirit a chance to relax, giving you the opportunity to energetically, mentally and emotionally release what is no longer necessary. It offers the body a boost in healing and energetic protection from geopathic stress, from life stress, from illness and pain. It offers the mind a chance to stop spinning. It offers the Spirit a chance to connect with the mind and the body.
While scientific evidence is difficult to come by, given the individualistic nature of the healing process, there is evidence of its effectiveness by scientific studies through the National Institute of Health (DiNucci, 2005; McCaffrey & Taylor, 2005; Shore, 2004; Rae & Wurst, 2005). All cited these benefits for patients who receive Reiki on a regular basis: reduced anxiety, lowered blood pressure, release from pain and muscle tension, and a sense of greater self-esteem and confidence. Reiki also benefits clients with such mental health issues as depression, anxiety, addictions, affective disorders, and chronic pain. Plants given Reiki exhibited improved health and growth (Creath & Schwartz, 2004). I have personally witnessed clients move through many stresses and difficult situations using Reiki to maintain a sense of equilibrium and peace, and release old pain- mental, emotional and physical. I, personally, continue to experience the powerful yet subtle healing force of Reiki.
We all have Reiki energy flowing through us, much like water flows through the gills of a fish. Reiki enhances our innate healing process. The difference is someone who is trained in Reiki has an increased openness to channel this energy to assist and enhance the innate healing power the client already maintains. There are several different styles of Reiki, Usui Ryoho being one of the most popular. Whatever the style of Reiki being used, the fact is that Reiki taps into a deep well of healing energy that we are only just beginning to understand and into which we are beginning to tap. There is no “best” way… only your choice of method to healing. One of the best explanations of Reiki was written by Vinny Amador. He wrote, “Your Reiki will be an expression of you, of your life, your Being, and it will reflect the oneness and connectedness with all that you are.”
As of June 2015, I am trained as a HOLY FIRE Reiki Master/Teacher. Holy Fire Reiki is the newest form of Reiki, received by William Rand, of the internationally acclaimed International Center for Reiki Training. This Reiki is different than Usui Reiki in that it feels more profound in its healing. I thoroughly enjoy this new Reiki form, and find that the clients are more satisfied with their healing process.
"The use of the word holy in the name Holy Fire is not intended to have a religious meaning. The word holy has as its room meanning to be whole and complete adn this is how it is used in Holy Fire Reiki. Therefore, Holy Fire is a spiritual energy that creates wholeness through purification, healing, empowerment, and guidance."

Integrated Energy Therapy is similar to Reiki in that it is a hands-on energetic technique. But the main difference is that IET adds the use of particular acupressure points based on traditional Eastern meridian systems to release/relieve energy "blockages" that hinder healing. Eastern medical approaches focus on the electromagnetic energy field of the human body. Some common names are Chi (China), Ki (Japan), and Prana (India). The energy flows through pathways within the body, similar to how blood flows, energizing each part of our body. When these pathways become stagnant or blocked, we experience depletion which can be experienced as emotional imbalances, or physical diseases. Some causes are trauma, stress, fear, self-limiting beliefs, or crisis. IET seeks to open the chi channels for a more healthy fulfilling life.
Neither Reiki nor IET can be used to diagnose, treat, or heal disease. It is not intended to replace medical approaches. As a practitioner, my purpose is to assist you in supporting your natural healing process.
I am honestly passionate about the positive effects of IET and Reiki, and enjoy offering both individual Reiki sessions, and Reiki training workshops. If you are interested in Reiki, or Integrated Energy Therapy, and wish to experience a session, or become trained in Reiki, please contact me.
