What is holistic mental health counseling?
Holistic mental health counseling takes mental health counseling above and beyond the traditional counseling methods to alleviate disrupting thought patterns, belief systems, and behaviors that are severely impacting your lifestyle (employment, relationships, sense of Self). In graduate school, we learned how the mixture of sciences (biology, neurobiology, quantum physics theory) and foundations of healing (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) inform us of our essential connections to everything. These intersections of healing occur on many levels of Being all the time, and this coupled with over 20 years of practical experience working in the psychology field is the basis of knowledge which has influenced my approach to each individual in each session. I continue to learn new methods, new belief systems, and new ways of working with clients to ensure that your healing process happens at your pace with the most comprehensive information available to me.
Each session is 50 minutes at my office, with the first session consisting of addressing policies and procedures and a comprehensive assessment, including initial goal setting. From this assessment, a diagnosis is discussed and we create a treatment plan to guide us through the subsequent sessions until termination of therapy occurs.
Sometimes people seek out counseling out on their own, and sometimes it is recommended by another healthcare professional, family member or close friend. The benefits of counseling depend on several factor such as rapport with your therapist, and how the techniques and methods the therapist offers fit with the issues you desire to address. Therapy yields the greatest benefits when the client takes responsibility for their own healing, using the therapist as a collaborative assistant in this process.
NOTE: I am licensed to practice mental health counseling in New York and Connecticut. If you need mental health counseling and reside in a state that is inaccessible to New York or Connecticut, please consult your local guides for an appropriate licensed therapist in your state.
